Ashton Gate Stadium Teams Up with HSG to Save Millions of Litres of Water and Reduce CO2 Emissions

Date posted: 12.03.2024

Ashton Gate and HSG are teaming up to save almost 18 million litres of water and reduce the Stadium’s CO2 emissions by 18.9 tonnes in the first year alone.

The leading events, meetings and conference centre in the South West has identified HSG’s Ureco system as a key way to support Project Whitebeam.

The Stadium boasts a maximum variable capacity of 26,387 people in Sport Mode, up to 32,000 in Concert Mode. This combined with an array of amenities including 20 Corporate Boxes, two Executive Lounges, the Lansdown Restaurant, Heineken Lounge and Independence Sports Bar, means Ashton Gate is a well-equipped and bustling events space. This high footfall nature means the washrooms on site get plenty of use, particularly on matchdays and during concerts.

HSG will provide a solution to improve the washroom experience of the space by preventing unsightly blockages and eliminating odours.

The Bristol Sport Group is committed to Project Whitebeam, a joint effort across the group members of Bristol Bears, Bristol City and Bristol Flyers, who have signed up for Sports for Climate Action Framework and Race to Zero. This framework targets the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030, and ultimately reach net zero status by 2040. As the home of Bristol Sport, Ashton Gate is integral to the success of this project.

Ashton Gate is a fellow British Association for Sustainability In Sport (BASIS) member, with Bristol City obtaining sustainability-orientated awards such as the Football Supporters’ Association Climate Action Winners 2022, EFL’s Official Green Club of the Year 2023, and is the first EFL club since the launch of Green Clubs to achieve Green Code status in 2023.

This reinforces our like-minded drive for environmental savings and we look forward to collaborating with Ashton Gate to support a more sustainable planet.
