Millwall FC’s Lion Living Sustainability Pledge is Further Elevated by HSG

Date posted: 26.10.2023

We have partnered with Millwall Football Club to help the renowned team further elevate its sustainability credentials.

Millwall’s Lion Living initiative details the Club’s collective goal to reduce the volume of CO2 it produces by 50% by 2030 versus the baseline set in 2019, with an ultimate aim of being carbon neutral by 2040. Millwall was keen to reduce water consumption and CO2 emissions across the venue to help support these sustainability goals.

After speaking with us, a fellow British Association for Sustainability in Sport (BASIS) member, Millwall’s sustainability team was confident that our Ureco System could not only provide a solution to save water and CO2, but also save money on water bills and reduce the incidence and cost of unplanned maintenance; which can be particularly problematic on matchdays.

We are set to install 117 Urecos and 83 Uretech water managers across the extensive site. With our award-winning Ureco System in place, the Club is projected to reduce water consumption by 22,543,860 litres in the first 3 years, which is enough to provide a full 20,146 capacity The Den with daily drinking water for 18 months. This massive reduction in water consumption will also reduce CO2 emissions by 9.49 tonnes, which is about half the weight of Millwall’s Mercedes Tourismo team bus.

As well as these massive savings, the washroom experience at The Den will be improved for players, staff, and fans alike through the elimination of blockages and odours; thanks to Ureco’s bio-enzymes keeping pipework clear and with its clever Odour Lock system keeping unpleasant smells at bay.

Paul Sayer, Head of Facilities & Safety Officer and a Lion Living Committee Member of Millwall Football Club has said:

“We are excited to enter this partnership with fellow BASIS member HSG. Their Ureco System will help us realise our ambitious sustainability targets, detailed by our Lion Living initiative.

“Furthermore, we are always looking to improve the experience of people who visit The Den, and because Ureco’s extended benefits will prevent troublesome urinal blockages and unpleasant odours, it will help us do just that.”
