NWAS Benefits From Environmental and Cost Savings
North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust has installed the innovative Ureco washroom water conservation system at its head office in Broughton near Preston and is already reaping the benefits.
NWAS operates across the region with three emergency operations centres, three area offices, five NHS 111 sites, one support centre, two patient control rooms, two hazardous area response team (HART) buildings and more than 100 ambulance stations.
The Challenge
The NHS Trust has worked with HSG to meet its objectives of reducing water usage and the cost of repairs and maintenance as well as improving staff facilities by eradicating urinal blockages and odours.
The NWAS employs around 6,300 staff in over 300 different roles, whilst having over 1,000 emergency and non-emergency vehicles operating across the North West.
Our Approach
The HSG team surveyed the site and calculated the positive benefits of installing Ureco.
Calculations showed that, by installing this system, NWAS Broughton will reduce the amount of water used to flush the urinals by more than 1,000,000 litres a year which is the equivalent to 180,000 bathtubs.
This will result in more than £6,600 savings in bills a year with further savings in washroom repairs and maintenance.
Furthermore, C02 emissions will have reduced by 1000kg or 1.1 tonnes per annum
The Result
NWAS Estates Manager Paul Gilfoyle said: “The HSG urinal system is helping us to achieve our strategic goal of reduction in carbon emissions year on year whilst enabling substantive savings in water charges.”
