Ureco improves the washroom experience for growing workforce
HSG’s patented Ureco urinal sleeve system has helped food manufacturing company Shire Foods.
Shire Foods started life 40 years ago making pies for chip shops and Premier League football clubs across the UK. The company now has a wide portfolio of supermarket chains stocking its range of pastry-based frozen foods – all with no artificial colours or flavourings.
The Challenge
Based in a custom-designed BRC Grade AA production facility in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, Shire Foods continues to invest in the plant and its people to ensure that only the best products make it into consumers’ shopping baskets.
A growing order book has been matched by an expanding workforce with more than 125 people now working at the factory on 24 hour shifts from Sunday to Friday so keeping the facilities fresh and clean has been a top priority.
Our Approach
HSG’s technical team carried out a survey of the premises and estimated that the Ureco urinal sleeve system would save the company around £700 a year in water bills.
They carried out training with the company’s hygiene team on the correct way to clean the urinals fitted with the sleeve to ensure that the enzymes worked to full effect – preventing blockages and eradicating unpleasant odours.
The factory’s hygiene team, who operate under the food manufacturing industry’s strict guidelines, now only need to clean once a day.
Male employees constantly comment on the improved washroom experience which no longer smell.
And Shire Foods is also already saving money by lowering their water bills.
Shire Foods’ Health and Safety Officer Dean McKeown said: “Hygiene and cleanliness is obviously of the utmost importance to us throughout the building.
“The biggest saving we are already seeing is the amount of time that our hygiene team needs to be attending to the male washrooms. We also get constant comments from the guys saying how much nicer experience it is in there.
“We have had a fantastic service from HSG. You can tell that they are a family-run business with excellent customer service from guys who really know what they are doing from the initial meeting through to the fitting and then the training of the hygiene team.”
