The Challenge
With over two million passengers a year travelling through the port the washrooms are in constant use throughout the day.
Previous water saving devices had resulted in bad odours, increased calcification and maintenance costs.
The Technical Services team therefore set about from finding an alternative solution to the on-going issue while still reducing water costs and met with HSG.
Our Approach
HSG worked with Stena Line’s cleaning and facilities services provider The Floorbrite Group to install the award-winning Ureco system in male washrooms at the port.
The Ureco system has been developed with patented technology by HSG and received The Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation in April 2018 in recognition of the positive impact it is having at thousands of venues from single site restaurants to the O2 Arena and Tesco supermarkets across the UK.
The Ureco has been designed to reduce the amount of water flushing through washroom urinals to just 4 flushes per day. This is done through the unique design of the product and a blend of natural bio enzymes to ‘eat away’ at waste product within the waste pipework.
The Ureco also has other filters and a patented ‘odour lock’ system which controls odours within urinal pipework.
This works alongside the Uretech water manager which incorporates many unique features that allow the user to adjust water consumption in urinals based on their business type and usage requirements.
The Result
By installing the system at Holyhead Port, Stena Line will reduce the amount of water used to flush the urinals by more than 5.7 million litres a year which is the equivalent to three Olympic-sixed swimming pools or 16,606 bath tubs.
This will result in more than £8,000 savings in bills a year with further savings in washroom repairs and maintenance.
Stena Line’s environmental credentials will also be improved through the use of non-invasive biological cleaners.
Having now installed the devices HSG monitor the system, arrange quarterly service visits and provide an annual maintenance program resulting in odour free washrooms.
