The Challenge
Since the NEC was officially opened by HM The Queen in 1976, the venue has grown significantly in size and reputation to become the UK’s number one venue of choice for organisers, exhibitors and visitors.
There are 20 exhibition halls, 34 conference suites and a host of additional outdoor spaces which host more than six million guests and 500 events every year.
With such a high footfall – the NEC put a contract out to tender to tackle the issue of washroom water efficiency and improve the experience for the millions of visitors.
Our Approach
HSG successfully won the contract – pitching against some of the UK’s biggest washroom services’ providers.
The Ureco and Uretch system was installed over an eight-week period – working late at night and early in the morning to minimise disruption to the NEC and its customers.
That was nearly ten years ago and the NEC are still a valued customer of HSG whose technical team carry out quarterly services on the system installed in more than 800 urinals across the vast site.
The Result
NEC Project Engineer Andy Mullan said: “The NEC Group is an extremely environmentally-conscious business, with a broad range of initiatives in place across our venues to reduce our impact on the environment, including the Ureco system.
“The installation was quick and easy and through the Ureco system. In the first year alone, we saw a saving of somewhere in the region of 83 million litres of water, which is enough to fill 33 Olympic-sized swimming pools!
“HSG continues to be a great fit for The NEC and I look forward to continuing to work with them in the future.”
