Massive savings, improved washrooms and environmental accreditation makes Ureco a winner
With 30,000 students across numerous sites in the city and county – the University of Derby were keen to tackle bad odours in their public space washrooms and improve their environmental credentials.
The Challenge
Senior Cleaning Supervisor Cleve Bailey explained: “The washrooms at our campuses are in constant use throughout the day and we had extensive issues with bad odours and high maintenance costs due to calcification in the plumbing systems.
“We were keen to find a solution to this on-going issue and where very interested to learn more about the Ureco system when we met the HSG UK at the NEC Cleaning Show.”
Our Approach
The HSG UK team carried out an extensive survey of the men’s washrooms at the University of Derby’s main campus in Kedleston Road, Derby, and were confident that the Ureco system would be the solution to the issues they faced.
After a successful trial, the Ureco system and has since been installed at the University’s seven other campuses in Derby and Buxton.
The Result
HSG UK constantly monitor the system which has shown that yearly water usage in the men’s washrooms across the University of Derby campuses have decreased by more than 23,739,965 litres – saving the organisation more than £58,000 a year in water bills.
But the benefits don’t end there.
The water consumption savings have heavily contributed to the University of Derby gaining ISO 4001 environmental management accreditation and maintenance costs have also been dramatically reduced due to the Ureco’s patented enzyme system.
Cleve Bailey concluded: “We continue to receive an excellent service from HSG UK. They are always on hand for service and support and the washroom environment has been vastly improved across our campuses.”
