Ureco is Playing a Key Role in University’s Net Zero Plan
The University of Liverpool is comprised of 192 buildings that house lecture theatres, teaching areas, and state-of-the-art research facilities.
Within this, the University has 22,000 students on campus and a network of 270,000 alumni across 171 countries. This global presence means the University is well-versed in current world affairs regarding sustainability and has pledged within its Strategy to be Net Zero by 2035.
The Challenge
The University’s vast 100-acre site was experiencing blockages and odours in the washrooms. Furthermore, the urinals were overflushing and using copious amounts of water.
Due to our wealth of experience in the education sector, the University was confident that we could provide an effective solution.
Our Approach
After initial contact was made, we agreed to survey the University of Liverpool’s main campus, where we recommended the installation of 42 Ureco urinal sleeves and 32 Uretech water managers.
After scrutinising the projected water and cost savings, the University commissioned the installation of the Ureco System. Thanks to careful pre-planning from the survey information, the Ureco Team installed our equipment across just 3 days. As well as this, we worked closely with the University to ensure the installation was as least disruptive as possible for its students and staff by working outside of the site’s busiest hours.
The Result
Not only have blockages and odours been eradicated in the washroom, but the Ureco has projected significant savings; monitoring is now commencing at the University and the water, carbon and financial savings can be reviewed in the coming year.
Since 2019, the Ureco has saved 53 million litres of water, enough to provide a full-capacity Anfield Stadium, 61,015 people, with drinking water for 1.5 years.
Paul Bruton, Engineering and Contract Support Manager at the University of Liverpool, has said:
“Since installing Ureco back in 2019, we have often received positive feedback on our pleasant washrooms and our maintenance issues are rarely, if ever, attributed to the urinals.
“I am also impressed with the water savings the Ureco is consistently achieving, the system is playing a key role in the University’s 2035 Net Zero plan.”
